Hello! I just ran the Surf City Marathon. You know, nothing like running 26.2 miles to get ready for the Super Bowl feast. Here’s my race recap / results / random rambling because I’m delirious and enjoying a bev.
I finally had a good race! I needed this so bad. I didn’t PR, but I felt strong – even at the end.
I’m not that Type A running blogger / marathon maniac / person who has their life together and remembers each mile (truthfully I don’t care as long as I don’t die or fall or have an ‘accident’) but here’s the nutshell (below).
Wait. First, here’s my pre-race picture because this is what you do in Huntington Beach aka Surf City USA:
1. I went back to my tried and true pre-race food = rice with tons of salt and soy sauce. I also drank a lot of everything yesterday – seltzer, water, vitawater…
2. This morning = bagel and coffee.
3. Race time!
Surf City Marathon:
It was a little warmer than I would have liked, but a great day for a race! I saw a lot of my Sole Runner friends and it was really good to see familiar faces and get some high-fives! It’s been too long since I’ve run with them. I miss them.
Surf City Marathon results = 3:50:42
This was the first race since probably last May that I felt good at the end. It’s also the first one that I didn’t hate myself for signing up for the full versus the half around mile 17.
I think the reason is I took hydration and fueling a little back to being a little more disciplined again. I used to be better about it and just got lazy. My legs are still not fresh, but considering that – I felt great.
But I’m still glad it is over and now I can just eat!
Run and done!
Question: Did you run this weekend? Where? How far?
On a scale of 1 to 10 – how good did your last workout feel?

I ran the surf city too! I only ran the half. I think I did pretty well and ran with 2 girlfriends the whole time who helped push me and kept my pace consistent. We finished in 2:05. Now I want to finish a half in under 2hrs for my next goal. I don’t know if i’ll ever want or feel the need to run a full. Good job with the full! This was my first time running the surf city and I felt like it was really well organized and it was a beautiful day!

I SAW YOU!!!… at surf city!!! And i did full marathon as well. So, I actually saw you twice and was super excited both times but didn’t say hi. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now and just felt too shy to say hi, but now i’m saying hi. Don’t judge but I recognized the back of your red braided hair with visor. hehe… I had a GREAT race too! Mostly cuz I didn’t feel like dying after or crying. My second marathon done. Congrats on your race! Glad you didn’t die in your ice bath! You’ll live to run another day. 🙂

Congratulations! Say hi next time 🙂

Congrats on a great marathon! I ran the Galveston Marathon yesterday, about an hour slower than you 😉 It felt great to pig out during the Super Bowl after the race!

11 mile treadmill run for me today – we have too much snow. My last workout was a 9 because it was the first run in weeks that was pain free!

great job! so glad you had a good race. i did 7 miles in the freezing windy cold here in NYC on Sunday and it sort of hurt my life!

Great post!
By the way, your cereal picture looks like you combined the teriyaki meatballs and tostinos rolls. 😛

Great job. I love the feeling you get when you have a great race. Nothing beats it.

I ran surf city too! I knew it had potential to be a bad run for me, developed ITBS 2 weeks ago and got a cortisone shot on Tuesday last week, helped some, made to mile 8 before the stabbing pain started. Had to do some walking but with a little Aleve and a lot of prayer I managed to start running again and made it in 4:40ish… 20 minutes slower than my last race but given the ITBS, much better than expected! Now to rest 🙁

Just a little 6-miler yesterday. It was super warm when I ran the full there 2 years ago. Glad you had such a strong race!

I ran in Charlotte North Carolina this weekend…. 8 Friday, 13.1 Saturday and 8 Sunday. I’m originally from Michigan so the warm NC weather was awesome!!!
My legs are fried. Not used to all the hills or as a matter of fact, not used to running outside. I log a lot of my winter mileage on the treadmill.
Bobbie says
Sounds like an awesome run. Congrats!
I did a pop-up run in Philly on sunday with the race directors of the Philadelphia Love Run
….8.5 miles on what I consider a warm morning of late..21 degrees!

Congrats! I need some of that nice weather! We just had a blizzard here in Chicago!

I ran the Rotary club of sugar house…. it was only a 3.1 mile run. I’m thankful it was ONLY 3.1 miles. I’m not sure my body could have handled more.

What happened to my post? Anyway, had a 16 mile training run this AM. Been eating everything in sight all day. Luckily I was at a superbowl party, so it was all really healthy. Ha.

Congrats on an excellent run! I legit pulled a muscle in my upper back in my sleep and couldn’t figure out how to get my sports bra on this morning so I missed my 13 mile group run. When I could finally wrangle the ladies I tortured myself instead with the Stairmaster at the gym, hurt so good – 20 minutes on that beast makes me feel super accomplished. Also sore.

I ran the Surf City half marathon this morning. I didn’t pr (I did last year), but I was going strong for the first 9.5 miles. I was set to finish at 2:12 (according to facebook). I run out of energy around mile 10 and I start slowing down. Today, that’s when I decided to start walking, but I prefer running nonstop. Any advice on how to finish strong is greatly appreciated. I want to pr. Congrats on your time.
