Ummm, RERland we have a problem. (as in “Houston, we have a problem.”)
Ya know how watching the Food Network makes you hungry? And then you plan out your next vacation completely based on how many Diners, Drive-ins and Dives you can hit in 7 days?
Oh, is that just me? Awkward.
Anyway.
I’ve been watching a little too much HGTV. And I might have convinced myself I’m on the show “Flip or Flop” and keep looking around for updates to do on the condo.
(Side note: Flip or Flop is filmed in Orange County so I know where they are and I love it.)
Well, first I had everything painted. And it made me happy.
The painter is my new friend and we got to chatting about all the other stuff I want to do. I randomly mentioned I want to take out the end kitchen cabinet because it blocks the door and just seems abrupt.
She said she could do that and just like that – it was decided. She’s been busy with other projects but finally had time today. I mentioned something about getting a microwave that would fit better in the spot (it’s too big, it’s super old and loud too).
And just like that – we decided to take it out and get a new one. Our reference will be the top-rated drawer microwaves.
This is a problem because I DON’T HAVE A MICROWAVE RIGHT NOW. And I use the microwave at least 2 times a day. Lately I’ve only been cooking once or twice a week and then have a lot of leftovers. But they need to be reheated!
Yeah, I know I can heat it on the stove but that makes more dishes and takes a lot longer. I’m not used to waiting a lot time when I’m throwing something together for meals.
And popcorn is my favorite snack right now!
And sometimes I like to melt a random piece of cheese on a tortilla while I make another snack.
It’s going to be an adventure because I suspect I use it more than I even realize.
I already ordered another one but it doesn’t get here for 9 days. That is a long time in foodland!
Operation: No Microwave Oven starts today! I have to figure out something for dinner since I was going to reheat something.
This is going to be an exercise in patience and kinda interesting to look at how much I’m really using it!
Yesterday I went to my parents’ and ate their food. Food I heated up in a MICROWAVE.
Luckily, you don’t have to microwave cereal! I ate this on the way to an appointment this morning.
Before my appointment I did some strength training.
Luckily today is a rest day from running because my running shoes are done!
I try to be good about changing them every 300 to 400 miles, but some shoes wear down faster or I forget or both.
I asked Vegas for moral support through this rough time without a microwave and he’s not super into it…
Question: When was the last time you used a microwave?

I actually only use my micro a couple times a week at most – usually to reheat food or melt butter when baking. However, I just had to buy a new one because I moved. Couldn’t see NOT having one, even tho I don’t use it much.

I once went months without a microwave and got so used to it that when I got one again it took awhile to get back to where I used it often. A small Pyrex in the oven is your best bet. It just takes a little longer! Of course now I use the micro all the time but without one I totally adjusted!

I use a microwave everyday!! It is not just you. Diners Drive-Ins and Dives is one of our favorite shows!! We have been inspired by it to try new places when we go to races! My husband tried to run a half on shoes that looked like that… he said, “Lesson learned. Never again!” He said it hurt so badly! I’m gonna take a look at my treads tonight. You reminded me that I need to do that. Thanks! Do you ever run in Brooks?

Do you have a toaster oven? I think I like it better than microwave. I got rid of mine when I moved a few years ago,but I’m really wanting a new one now. They make the best cheese toast/tortillas I think 🙂

I just used it to re-heat my chinese food leftovers. I use it every single day. I couldn’t live without out it for one day let alone more than that.

In the 90’s I didn’t have microwave. I had to eat my chicken chow mein cold. Trust me you get used to cold chow mein!!

I used the microwave yesterday to heat up some instant brown rice…. I think the package said you can do it on the stove top, too, but…… We’ve gone without a microwave for a week or so and it took more planning. I use an air popper for popcorn because I like the flavor better and really doesn’t take much longer then then popcorn feature on the microwave.

We actually don’t have a microwave in our condo (it’s a small kitchen), so it’s been 5+ years since I’ve lived with one! Now it’s rare that I even think about it — my husband pretty much eats all of what we cook so there are hardly ever leftovers, and we just buy the stovetop popcorn 🙂

I definitely need stovetop popcorn asap!

Wow – I could not live 9 whole days (or even 1) without a microwave. I would probably go buy a super cheap one just to hold me over … that’s how much angst I would be in without one. I mean seriously, even a cup of coffee/tea would be difficult/time consuming without one! Good luck girlfriend…. (I know we’re not really girlfriends, but it seemed to fit here. Although, I wish we were!)
PS – today’s my bday andddd it’s rainy … rest day!

Boom!

I haven’t used a microwave all week! I’m big on avocado and sliced tomato on toast, popcorn of course, and smoothies right now…and I like some leftovers cold – like pizza! Love cold pizza.

Daily! I have a 2 year old, and without my microwave I’d never get to drink hot coffee in the morning.

I’ve never had a microwave – and I’ve done fine! A bit inconvenient, but fine, haha!

Not that you asked for opinions, but the wall where you took down the cabinet would be a great spot for some open shelving!
