Dead Garmin Running

Happy Tuesday! I was wishing and praying and hoping that my Garmin would bounce back this morning. It stopped working Saturday, but I’ve been able to reset it before.

Unfortunately, Garmin’s 9 lives are up and she passed away this morning at 6:52am PST. She is survived by her best friend, Monica. garmin 305

Vegas has no sympathy for my tears and told me to suck it up and go for my run. cat shoes

I was supposed to do a speed run today, but without a watch it’s difficult. I did 6 x800s but it was probably at the same pace that I do long runs.

I ordered a lap desk from Groupon a week ago and it arrived yesterday. It’s meant to be used when you’re laying or sitting on the bed, but I knew it would be perfect for a standing desk. I usually use my pub height table, but this is even better! (Ignore the mess, I’m just a Messican.)standing girl

I’ve been a fan of standing desks since Ben brought me one from his office back in 2010. Good times.

PSA from KeepHerInTheGame.Org

I saw this commercial this morning and it really got to me.

Run, jump, skip, dance – find something that makes you feel good. Happiness doesn’t come from a reflection in the mirror, it comes from inside. Pass it on to the girls in your life Smile

      I’ve had the Garmin Forerunner 205 for about 10 years now and it is still ticking. It is a bit bulky and it usually doesn’t pick up a gps signal for the first mile, so that just means I have to run an extra mile (;

      Oh, Monica- that video!
Those statistics are sad. We have to show the world some beautiful athletes who are also glamorous! We can be both.

I totally know how you feel about the passing of your Garmin. Mine has now died and come back three times…I am not looking forward to the day she doesn’t come back to life 🙂

RIP Garmin. Getting a replacement? Model/brand? Saw a few friends posting about the Garmin Fenix – anyone using this? How is it working out? I’m currently using the FR610.

I cross my fingers every time I power up my Garmin, I have the same mold as you that I have had since 2007. I feel like she is living on borrowed time :/ Looking forward to you reviewing a new one.

PS- My husband uses a standing desk at work, he loves it.

A large part of my job is standing at a receiving bench in a lab. I love being able to get up/stand for most of my day. I think I would go super stir crazy if I had to be calm and sit through my whole shift!!
Sorry to hear about your Garmin!! Perhaps time to try the new Garmin 10?

I have that same Garmin…love it but will probably find a lighter one next time. Let me know what you end up with. Why do you like standing desks? Is it becase you’re constantly moving around the house? Just curious. That’s a great message, thanks for sharing. 🙂 Jessica

I use a box to prop up my keyboard sometimes when I’m on my computer for a long time. But then I get annoyed with standing and look longingly at my chair. And then I sit down. Standing at the computer <- fail!

I think my Mr.G is on his last leg too. It’s sad to watch but he keeps pulling through just when I think he took his last charge, he fires back up.

The video was whoa. So true and as a mother of a little girl I never really thought about it that way. I played sports all through high school so I just assumed my daughter would too but I need to be aware of all the messages she is getting. We weren’t bombarded with that stuff when I was little. Thanks for kicking me in the pants 😉

I like my Garmin 305, but wouldn’t mind the smaller one. I usually only pay attention to distance. I don’t even notice it anymore but DH used it the other day and his immediate response was, “this this is heavy.” At least I know he won’t be stealing it.

I have a Garmin 110 it is currently going through that time out phase and then I have to reset it….I am hoping it will do this for awhile. (But I kind of like the Garmin 10 from SR’s review so I will be Ok when it finally does die)

Consider it an early Christmas gift to your self. 😉

I’m so sad, my Garmin recently died too. What are you going to get to replace yours? I had the 405 and loved it, but REI doesn’t carry it anymore and the sales guy told me it is out dated and old school! I don’t know what to get now.

I sit at my desk from 6:30-4:00 everyday. I break it up with a 1-2 hour workout. I would love a stability ball or something but standing up the entire time?? My hat is off to you….

I’m always so freezing though. I’m sitting cross legged in my desk chair with a jacket over my legs and a heater on……standing might be warmer!

I don’t know if I could work with a standing desk! My job requires me to be on my feet for a few hours a day (I’m a professor) so I think that justify’s my laziness 😉

You can do speed work on a track or measured course with a regular ole stopwatch. I never use a garmin. I just used marked/known courses and my stopwatch (which never dies and never needs to be charged). P
