Pile On The Miles 2012 sign-ups start today!
Pile On The Miles is an annual event in blogland where we challenge ourselves to walk or run more during the month of November. The goal is to pile on extra miles not pounds during this food filled time of year!
This is the Fourth Annual Pile on the Miles Challenge! The first one was in 2009 and I won 2nd place for the most miles. I took it over in 2010 and would LOVE for you to participate.
Who: Everyone is invited to join
What: Online challenge to walk or run more during turkey month.
When: November 1 – December 1. Winners announced Dec 2nd.
Where: Sign up and Update your weekly mileage on the spreadsheet below
Why: To challenge yourself and encourage others to move more. This isn’t about weight loss or distance – it’s about doing a little extra this month.
The Rules:
1. Sign up on the Google Spreadsheet by October 31st.
There will be a place for your name, blog address and twitter handle. You must put in a name, but the other entries are optional. If you have a blog please add it so we can create the most epic blogroll ever!
2. Set a goal at the beginning of the challenge to WALK or RUN x amount of miles. These could be miles on the treadmill OR outside/inside walking OR running. No biking or elliptical miles don’t count.
3. We will be using calendar weeks Sun-Sat, but the first week is Thur-Sat. It’s clearly marked on the spreadsheet. Please update your miles for the previous week by Monday.
4. Optional: Leave a comment on RER Nov 1 and 5, 12, 19, 26 with your Mileage Goal for that week. All comments on those posts will be entered into a giveaway.
The Goods:
The person with the MOST MILES will win a $100 gift certificate from www.Running Shoes.com for any shoes you want!
All other participants will be entered to win*:
1. An outfit and pair of running shoes from Brooks Running
2. An outfit and pair of shoes from PUMA
*Must update the spreadsheet by Dec 1st midnight PST to be entered to win.
There will also be a giveaway each Monday when you report in with your Monday Mileage Goal for the week.
Use this spreadsheet to sign up by Oct 31st at midnight:

Hey. My name is no longer listed on the google doc! In fact, a lot of names are missing now. (I looked for friends on it.) Why? BTW…I am at 42/60 and it has been there until this afternoon and now it’s gone.

runeatrepeat says

Ashley says
Hi! Silly question – since this week goes from the 4th-10th, wouldn’t it make more sense to post our mileage goal on the 3rd or 4th instead of hte 5th? I looked up the dates in November 2011 and the 5th, 12th, etc were Saturdays so those make sense for mileage goals for last year.
Just a thought.
Thanks!
Denise says
Dang. I just saw this today and I guess I missed the sign up deadline. :/ Sad day.
Alison says
Is it too late to join?

My mileage goal for the week is to exceed 15 miles! I just finished my first marathon a week and a half ago so I am still recovering.
tina says
question about the goal – is it miles per week or for the entire challenge?
Daria says
It’s a great challenge but I feel like it’s a bit unfair not to include bike and elliptical miles. There are people out there, myself included, who simply cannot do much running or walking due to injuries. So the bike and the elliptical, because they are low impact, are the only ways for such people to exercise and stay healthy. I realize that running probably requires more effort than biking and working out on an elliptical, but I think there should be a way to include these forms of exercise into the challenge in a fair way.
Lindsay says
I am in and I’m excited about this challenge! I do have a few questions though-
1.) I don’t have a blog so how will I be contacted if by a miracle I win a prize? I’ve been thinking about starting one but I haven’t as of yet!
2.) And the optional part – I don’t get it! Hahaha! Leave comments where?
Missy says
