getting ready to go out in palm springs (438x438)

Yesterday I drove up to Palm Springs for the New Balance PS Half Marathon. Palm Springs is only 2 hours and away. It was perfect because my best friend lives there so we planned a whole fun night before the race.

This was the starting point…

It was a BLAST in a glass. I didn’t want to drink too much so I only did shots so I could keep better track of how much I was drinking (because it’s hard to know how much alcs is in a cocktail sometimes). Whelp. That was not the best choice. Damn Patron.

It was a l-o-n-g night!

We ended up at Ihop. Hey, I needed to get some extra carbs in before the race.

Two hours later Cindy and I had to wake up and get ready for the race. (That is when I hate myself for staying out and drinking and la-di-da…)

Cindy ran the 5k and ROCKED it!

Palm Springs Half Marathon

Course: Gorgeous! I had heard a few things about this race, but I feel like no one does it justice when describing the course. It is beautiful! The mountains and palm trees create a backdrop behind huge mansions to start. It’s pretty flat too.

Overall: Awesome race. It was very well organized. I couldn’t pick up my bib until this morning and I was in and out in a minute. Plenty of porta-potties, started on time. I wish there was more aid stations – but that may just be because I was very hung over/dehydrated and my throat was scratchy the whole time.

Post-race we showered and headed back to the casino for the Champagne Brunch. We got there at 11am, but they close from 11 to 11:30 to resent from breakfast to brunch. So, we had to wait 30 minutes and I was already super super hungry!! By the time we got to brunch I was ready to make a dent in it.

And I did.

Sadly after brunch it was time to head home. Boo. I had such a fun time with Cindy! I’ll be back soon.

      Monica,

I love the pictures, that looks like a fun race. I hope to head out to Palm Springs in December for the HIT Half Ironman. I can’t wait

super jealous of your time, especially given your circumstances, lol!!! Lucky! How often do you run half marathons? Have you ever done the Huntington Beach or OC ones?

The best thing about the weekend for me was that I celebrated my 49th birthday on Sunday. I’m embracing my age and not fighting it. After all 49 is the new 35, right? I was supposed to do a half marathon on Saturday the 8th but it got postponed until the 15th because the route is/was too icy. Thus increasing my envy of your palm trees and sunshine.

Hangover aside, I’m extremely jealous of 1) your energy level, and 2) the weather. It’s 20 degrees in CT with snow on the ground.

I love blogs that mix fun with weight loss. And it sure looks like you’re having a grand old time.

haha! I ran a 1/2 marathon w/my sister while I was hungover (or still drunk) once. It didn’t work out as well for me as it did for you! I ended up running into a laundry mat and asking that nice old lady to use her personal bathroom. I felt bad. Dominoes is always a bad idea, but especially when you’re drinking and it’s 3 hours before your race.

Oh running a half or any race sucks when you are hungover. I did that last year for a 10k and a 5k. Luckily, I did pretty well in both races. But, I won’t be going out the night before a race again. 1-2 beers is my max!

like everyone else who commented, im so impressed you can run a half with a great time on 2 hrs of sleep & post tequila. ive noticed you drank some nights before your previous races too! how do you do that? i know i couldn’t (im athletic, go to the gym five times a week), so does it just come with being an experienced runner? i sometimes try to work out after a night of drinking in hopes it will make me feel better, but my workouts always end up being half a**ed / i feel even more hungover&dehydrated. any tips????
