Hello! I ran the Avocado Half Marathon this morning! Aka the race I ran last year where I LOST MY KEYS!
Early wake up call because even though the race didn’t start until 7:30am the race was an hour away and the last shuttles from the parking lot left at 6:30am.
This time I double knotted my key on my shoe laces. And I looked down to check on it probably about 692 times.
Before the race I did a warm up according to the park’s workout circuit instructions…
After a quick trip to the restrooms and a run-in with a few readers (how’d it go Shannon, Adrian, Elizabeth, Amy… who am I forgetting?) it was time to line up!

This race is well organized, small, friendly, fun, avocado-themed… so much great stuff.
This might be the best race sign ever…
But it’s also the hardest course I’ve even run – and I’ve run about 20 half marathons. So, yeah. It is HILLY. I walked a couple of the super steep hills without guilty. I am not trying to be a hero today.
I don’t think I realized how hilly it was last year because I was so worried about my lost key. I stopped to walk a few times last year to call my mom and Ben to potentially come pick me up from the race, so yeah. I had bigger hills to climb last time.
I didn’t get too crazy with it and walked when necessary. I tried to take smart breaks – which we can chat about later. I really was surprised I ran a sub-2 hour half marathon given the challenging course.
Avocado Half Marathon finish time – 1:57:43
Yes, you get avocados at the end!
But it gets even better than that…
GUACAMOLE too!
And check out this fun Avocado Medal!
I am off on a very exciting adventure first thing tomorrow. More on that soon!!

I had guacamole Saturday night. The weekend was very calm for me because I was at my son’s soccer tournament. Sadly they lost all the games.

Love the avocado theme ….my very very favourite food. Super jealous this half is not in Scotland
Glad you kept your keys though and a great time!

I would totally do this race even if it’s only for the avocado 🙂

I’d love to run that race! I made some Guac a couple of weeks ago…. Avocados are one of my favorite foods! Congrats on a good time!

It was sooooooooo hilly!!! Thank you for saying it was one of the hardest courses you’ve run, that makes me feel so much better! LeighAnn was definitely pushing me those last 5 miles and I needed it. The downhill finish was nice and we were able to bust-a-move at the end. I wasn’t thrilled with my 2:11 finish, but considering the hills and my constant foot pain I probably should be thrilled with it.
Best part: running with my BRF and scoring avocados at the end! yes and yes 🙂
Enjoy this next adventure; can’t wait to hear all about it.

I forgot to say that this medal is likely one of my all-time favorites!!! I do love my Disneyland half medal from 2013 and my very hard-earned Surf City FULL from 2013. But this Avo-Flag combo thing is right up top! 😀

That looks like a fun race! It’s been too long since I had guacamole. Though Chiptole is usually the only place I’ll buy it from. We went shopping today and scored big at the outlet mall!

I have not had guac in forever, but I did eat a black bean soup with an avocado on top yesterday for lunch AND for dinner. That counts, right?

Do your shorts have a little pocket in the back? If so, put your key in a baggie (if you sweat like me) and put it in that pocket.
No guac for me..I don’t like it.

Glad you going on to your keys this year! I love Yucatan guac, it’s really the only brand we buy. Except lately my store has only had the spicy version in stock, and I prefer the regular. So no guac for me! Sad face. I suppose I could just make it myself but…yea, I’d rather buy it!
