Flat Belly Tips for Traveling this Summer

1. Stay hydrated.

When we’re traveling it’s easy to ‘forget’ about drinking water or it’s easy to skip because you don’t have your usual water bottle and sink available. This can lead to overeating (since thirst can feel like hunger) or an upset stomach or overall feeling of yuckyness. Keep a water bottle with you as your travel and try to drink as much as you do at home/work.

2. Pack smart snacks and probiotics.

Check out this video with tips from Registered Dietician Ashley Koff

“This summer I want to remind everyone the importance of keeping your digestive system balanced. Summer adventures can take you out of your daily routine, which can cause occasional digestive upsets and disrupt the natural balance of good bacteria in your gut. Align can help fortify your digestive system to Live 24/7.” – Ashley Koff, R.D.

3. Exercise… Do some digestive support or stress relief yoga poses or exercises.

I love in yoga class with the instructor leads us through a pose and points out something like, “This is massaging your liver…give it a lil hug…”

Vanessa Packer is the founder of modelFIT and she also has a nutrition background. She is sharing the moves below to help encourage healthy digestive balance.

^That one is just like giving yourself a lil hug, right?! Love it.

Awesome Post! I think this is such a needed conversation being that your belly naturally grows uneasy after doing a lot of traveling. I have found that if you do not follow some kind of healthy digestive tract regimen you can find yourself uncomfortable, which can ruin your trip. Thanks for starting the conversation!

Heading to Green Bay for a week soon. My son and husband want to fish and golf, and I’m taking the time just to walk and relax and do some writing. We do plan a trip to Lambeau Field while we’re there too!

I just got back from the Adirondacks but I don’t have any trips on the calendar now until the Fall 🙁 I started a new job so we’ll see if I can sneak some long weekends at least for a some local getaways. Water is so important to keep the belly happy.

I am going to Vegas at the end of June and Yellowstone in July. Then random camping trips thrown in there, too. I rarely workout when I am on a trip. I always bring my workout clothes and running shoes but then they stay in my suitcase. I have the mindset that hey, I’m on vacation. How often do I get to sit around and do nothing. Not very often. I’ll go for walks or if we bring our bikes I’ll ride some trails but I don’t make a big deal that I “have” to go for a run.

I always get some kind of digestive issues when i break away from my normal eating routine. Ive found that drinking extra water, avoiding super greasy foods, and eating yogurt definitely helps me.
Exercises of course is big one too…its hard for me to work out while on vacation, but staying active is important–last vacation I took we ended up doing active excursions and taking long walks which I think helped in digestion. Thanks for sharing!

I’m currently in Mendocino, CA enjoying the scenery, cool weather and helping with their film festival. I will head to Ireland for a month in mid July. Thanks for the tips. I always forget to drink enough normally, but especially when on vacation.

Great tips! I travel a lot and try to drink a ton of water and remain active so that my body is happy. I have trips to Georgia, Boston, Nashville, and Napa coming up! Can’t wait!

I’m heading to California at the end of June! I’m flying into San Francisco and driving the coast. I’m also going to Chicago in August for work. I feel like I always eat so much junk while I’m travelling that I don’t feel like exercising. Great tips!
