Hello! The Fourth of July is just around the corner and I’m excited to hear about everyone’s fun plans. Part of my plans involve making sure our dogs are calm and safe. It’s something my family worries about every year and I thought I’d share some of my safety tips for the 4th of July.
1. Pet safety on 4th of July
The 4th of July is one of the most likely days your dog will run away. Our furry friends have a heightened sense of hearing and smell and all the fireworks can really scare them!
– Consider a Thunder Coat. Ben’s family got one for their dog Rufus because he’s super afraid of lightening.
Pet Safety Tips for the 4th of July
- Keep them inside or somewhere they cannot get out. You may also want to learn how to keep a pet jumping spider, just check out these SpidersWeb HQ – pet jumping spider resources here for more valuable info!
- Try to muffle the noise of fireworks with TV or a fan.
- Make sure they have their dog tags / identification on.
- Don’t buy alcohol for underage dogs.
- Discover Torontos trusted dog daycare & dog boarding services.
2. Swim Safety.
Beaches – Have you heard about all the recent shark attacks off the coast of North Carolina? Very scary. But you know who isn’t scared? Viral people like Jimmy John Shark.
I am not a shark-ologist so check out these Shark Safety Tips from ABC.
Also check the weather and surf reports for information on currents and rip tides. Respect any signs or warnings.
Pool – Always always always have an adult watching the pool when children (or intoxicated adults) are around. The problem with big parties is people often think someone else is keeping an eye on your little ones.
Take turns, assign shifts, do whatever is needed to have responsible eyes on the pool at all times. Have a life preserver near by and easy to grab.
And always wear sunblock.
3. Food Safety.
– Plan who is in charge of what : grilling, sides, drinks.
And let the grill-master do the BBQ themselves unless otherwise communicated. (I’ve seen a few news stories lately of people turning on the gas and leaving the top down or not telling the next person it’s already on, results in a huge fire explosion.)
– The amount of time you can leave food out depends on the temperature outside and the type of food. Meats and mayo-based salads will not keep out as long as chips and veggies. Note when things were set out.
Tip: Text someone else at the party with the time you set out each food so it’s recorded in your phone and now two people know.
– For our last BBQ we put down big metal containers filled with ice and put the food on top of that for the cold items and hot chafing dishes for the hot foods. Or a cold salad tray is a good idea for things you want to keep items cold too.
4. Firework Safety.
– Keep a bucket of water and fire extinguisher near by.
– Don’t hold fire works or light them by anything flammable.
– Use common sense and be smart and safe. It’s the 4th of July and everyone’s lighting fireworks so it’s easy to forget that you’re still playing with fire, literally.
– Don’t light fireworks if you’re intoxicated.
– Keep a clear and open space away from buildings, trees, and other flammable objects when lighting fireworks to minimize the risk of a fire accident.
– Always follow the recommended safety distances for each type of firework, and never attempt to relight a malfunctioning firework. Instead, wait for an extended period and then soak it in water before disposal.
Remember, accidents can happen even with the best precautions. In case of emergencies, having Nationwide Fire Watch Services on standby can provide an additional layer of safety and rapid response. Their professional expertise ensures a quick and effective response to any unforeseen incidents, ensuring a safer celebration for everyone involved.

When you say “don’t buy alcohol for underage dogs”.., is that in dog years or people years?

I’ll be watching the fireworks from my boat at the Venice inlet. It’s ahmazing and just gets bigger and better every year.

All great tips! I am actually going out of town but I have someone house sitting so my dogs are nice and safe. Oh and working at a hospital has made me very careful about water safety. It breaks my heart when we get near drowners (especially when they are children).

Can’t wait to see the firework pics from everyone

Excess dust or debris that has collected will impede air flow and negatively impact your furnace’s ability to heat your
home. Annual furnace maintenance is important for several primary reasons including safety,
efficiency, and reliability. For the best savings on your heating and cooling bill, you should install a furnace
or dual heating and cooling system that is at least 80%
efficient.

I’m running a local 5 mile race that morning and then I’m actually going to go dogsit for my boyfriend’s dog for some of the afternoon while he takes his kids to a parade and the pool. And then we’ll connect in the evening for our own fireworks 😉

Well after these great tips, we’re gonna be super safe! 😉
Our Beagle doesn’t really care about the fireworks noise so we’re good there; but we do always lock her inside on the 4th.
No pools to beware, but that safety is always good to note.
My boys LOVES the ocean, so watch him like a hawk despite the fact that he is a SUPER strong swimmer (even the beach lifeguards have mentioned that).
I plan to consume all food before it spoils! 😀
Not really jammin’ to fireworks this year; we kind of see them often enough at Disneyland. So we’ll have dinner with my SIL and head home before the madness.
Have a safe and happy 4th Monica! 🙂
