Endurance Live with Refuel

Wow! Last night was so much fun (hence the late post)! IMG_7847 (800x532)

Yesterday I attended the Refuel got chocolate milk press conference to unveil their new “My After” ad campaign. They revealed the new athletes, print ads and we got a sneak peak of the web clips.IMG_7683 (800x533)

The new Refuel athletes include:  Ricky Berens (swimmer), Chloe Sutton (swimmer), Apollo Ono (speed skater), and Sarah Reinersten (triathlete)IMG_7697 (800x533)

The big reveal!IMG_7705 (533x800)IMG_7706 (533x800)IMG_7710 (533x800)

The most surprising thing about this campaign is  that they didn’t ask me, a 3:59 marathoner and clumsy bike rider, to be in it the lack of milk mustaches! This is the first milk campaign with a clean upper lip.

I also think these new ads are kinda sexy, right?IMG_7702 (800x533)

You can thank Chloe Sutton for that – she’s the Olympic swimmer from California (and trains in Orange County!). Oh, and she’s totally gorgeous and sweet.IMG_7765 (800x533)

E! News was there to interview Apolo Anton Ono. During the awards show they showed a clip of him on TV – he’s super funny.IMG_7720 (800x533)

Random apple. Random blog.IMG_7722 (800x533)

After the press conference Skinny Runner and I headed to Janae’s hotel room for a quick wardrobe change. IMG_7725 (532x800)

Between Vegas and the Natural Products expo I didn’t end up having time to get a new dress (or brush my hair). Luckily it was dark and no one knew I don’t keep it classy.IMG_7726 (800x532)

We took some pictures walking into the gala.

The event was at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. IMG_7735 (800x533)

It was crazy to be surrounded by the best athletes in the country! We had just got there and spotted Abdi Abdirahman next to us. SR, Janae and I asked him 290 questions about running, eating, how much he weighs (that was SR) and everything else we could think of! I asked him to give me some fast running magic and he threw some fastness on my head. THANK YOU.IMG_7748 (800x532)

Janae was the Refuel correspondent and interviewed the athletes on the red carpet.IMG_7755 (800x533)

Finally it was time to head inside for the Endurance Live Awards. IMG_7790 (800x533)

The dinner included salad, salmon and steak and strawberry shortcakeIMG_7784 (800x533)

I made a few new blogger and OC resident friends!

Me, Skinny Runner, Kelly (from According to Kelly), The Cupcake Activist, Billy and JanaeIMG_7791 (800x532)

The awards started with formally showcasing the new Refuel Athletes and ads. There is also a series of video clips showing how the athletes train. It’s beyond inspiring. IMG_7812 (800x533)

Some of the athletes who received awards included:

Male Runner of the Year: Lukas Verzbicas, who ran a sub-4 minute mile at the 2011 Adidas Grand PrixIMG_7829 (800x533)IMG_7760 (800x533)

Jennie Simpson – Female Runner of the Year

Athlete of the Year: Apolo Ohno IMG_7839 (800x533)

Best Swag Bag Award goes to: The box of Peanut Butter Gu!!!! Died.

“I’d like to accept this Gu on behalf of athletes everywhere with an inappropriate, but passionate love for all things peanut butter and endurance sports. Combining the two is a match made in Heaven Kona…”IMG_7795 (800x533)

Female Triathlete of the Year: Chrissie WellingtonIMG_7841 (800x533)

Watching the clip of her IronwoMan win has completely inspired me to do a triathalon. Ah! I’m super pumped!!IMG_7842 (800x533)

After the party it’s the after party… or more specifically, the My After party with chocolate milk and cookiesIMG_7846 (532x800)

IMG_7845 (800x532)

The specialty drink of the night was a Chocolate Milk martini. I’m not sure if this is the best way to refuel, but it definitely was delicious! Janae stuck with straight up chocolate milk of course.IMG_7848 (800x532)

Now I’ve gotta go find a tri to do…

*I can’t find the clips for Dara Torres’ web clips, but they are amazing! I will share them when I get ‘em!!

See ya in a bit!

Looks like an awesome event! I’ve absolutely loved following Sarah Reinertsen’s journey–she spoke at the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon kick off event this year, and even though I wasn’t able to make it, it was still great to watch the clips and see all of the pictures!

  2. Adria Biasi says

mmmm chocolate milk martini sounds delicious…..So I am moving from Washington to your neck of the woods in the summer for graduate school, any tips or pointers for anything and everything about living down there, especially to do with running and gyms and healthy stuff :)

  3. says

Wow – PB Gu! We never get fun flavours like that here.

I kinda like their Refuel jackets too. It sounds like an awesome night !

  4. says

It looks like you had a blast. I can only imagine some of the conversations going on at the table last night between you women. Don’t you love the Got Milk team!?

  5. says

This is THE coolest thing EVER. I am so ragingly jealous! And what cute pictures of the 3 of you! So awesome to get to hang out with such amazing athletes. And I MUST get my hands on a peanut butter gu (obviously)!

  6. says

    Wow what an incredible night!!
So jealous you got to meet so many of my favorite athletes.
Chrissie’s race last year at Kona was mind blowing. Watching her power through all those injuries to come back and win was spectacular.
Do a triathlon! You might never look back though. You have been warned. 😉

  7. carrie bradshaw says

You look hot in dresses, Monica! I love the pics of you, hrg, and sr the best. I’m living vicariously through you guys!!

  8. says
