On Intuitive Eating When You Know You’re Not Eating Balanced

Hello! How is you lil day going? I’m over here running in my Hood to Coast tee. I like this one since I like wearing green and it was a very awesome race!!

On Intuitive Eating and Binge Eating

I’m also craving the carbs today (per usual). When I feel snacky I try to satisfy the craving to ‘just eat’ with foods that won’t do too much damage calorie wise – this is a coping mechanism from old binging habits. It’s not about overall denial or food or calories.

Sometimes it’s challenging to find a balance between listening to my cravings and making sure it’s what my body really needs. For the most part I try to eat 80/20 – 80% healthy 20% anything I want in the world. So that does mean even if I feel like I’m over-doing it a bit with one food group or too much ‘junk’ I allow that to be a part of my diet.

I do think that once you truly are an intuitive eater the cravings and indulgences balance out as a whole. This means one day might be a little more indulgent but some days are super healthy too. It’s not just about one day of eating or calories or grams of carbs – it’s about your diet as a whole and finding a balance that works for you.

Lunch today was actually a very healthy balance – salad with egg and a MASSIVE sweet potato.

Now it’s time for a March wrap up. Here are my favorite Run Eat and Repeat blog posts from the month:

Favorite RUN

PCRF Half Marathon with SR. Also – I found out I placed 3rd at the race!! Ha! Super surprising since my official time was not anywhere near what’s considered a ‘fast time’ at 1:49:11. Made my day though!!

Honorable Mention: LA Marathon – I was very worried about this race because it was so HOT that day.

Favorite EAT

Oh, that chocolate cake challenge from Sunday was AHHH-mazing.

This breakfast recipe is pretty delicious too…

You should totally run the Cascade Lakes Relay instead of Hood To Coast next time. Or better yet… the Bend Beer Chase! 😉 it’s totally up your alley

The best thing I did this month was start being gainfully employed at my job! I finished up my internship and now am teaching all kinds of HIIT classes. Also getting published a couple more places and this morning I was featured in the Chicago RedEye so I’m down with that 🙂

My best run this month was 17 miles! I felt pretty good afterwards but now two weeks later not so much (it might be my hip flexors). Not sure but I may have been overtraining. Even my walking is a little affected! A bit stressed since I had been trying to prep for my first full next month (OC MARATHON) and now I’ve significantly had to cut down on my training. I miss my runs! Any words of wisdom? OC is a month away!

Ohhhhh yup. Needed to read this today. Saturday, sunday, and monday were all REALLY good food days for me, in a nutritional and healthy sense. Today? We had a training at work and they supplied 2 dozen donuts an an absurd amount of cookies. I ate 5 donuts and it was hard to not eat more!! But youre right, its 80/20. Once my ultra training starts next week…. Back on the straight and narrow!!

Best run was the LA marathon (bc that was the only run…) best thing i did was get a job as a case manager/resident services coordinator down on Skid Row. SUCH a rewarding job! And best thing I ate?? Hmmm…. All the donuts and treats!!

I get this- I have dinner at my boss’s house at the weekend. He’s a notoriously good cook, and it’s not going to be healthy! But I have to remember I’m healthy all the rest of the time, and life needs its indulgences!

Ugh. as a former girl who consistently binged; I can empathize. I’m in a similar boat that I try to allow myself “binges” within that category in a healthier sense. Popcorn and Sweet Potatoes. You’re speaking my language.

That is a huge sweet potato! The best thing I’ve eaten lately would be cupcakes from a fancy bakery. Sweets always win for me. 🙂

My best run was the half I did in Philadelphia this past Sunday. It proved to me my knee is almost healed and I am ready for my full next month.
Favorite thing I did was go on a hike in the snow with my boyfriend and our dogs at the beginning of the month.
And best thing I ate was the chocolate pastries he brought me home from Eataly when I was in a funk.

Best run: SD half where I posted a time of 2:03 even with a massive hill at mile 9. I might have cleared the 2 mark without it, but I haven’t run at that pace in over a year so I’m happy with it. And it was a great race.

Best eat: The Donut Bar afterward and their amazing Stumptown coffee. YUM

Best thing I did: a toss up between my little trip to SD for that race with my BRF, her mom and my daughter AND a girls night out with my sister at The Twisted Vine in Fullerton.

I simply cannot believe it’s already April. JEEZ!!

Best thing I ate – this is tough… Chick fil a is always the best thing I eat… I could live off of those sandwiches and fries.

Best thing I did – spending time with family!
