Happy Tuesday!
I got enough sleep last night – first time in days and days and am feeling Ggggreat! I’m so excited. While I was traveling I kept joking that when it was done I wanted to stay in for a week and watch crappy TV. It’s sad, but true.
This morning, I woke up and had half a banana with sunflower seed butter before an easy 6 miler. I really just wanted a vehicle to eat some SB. I love it.
Then, I made some egg whites and my Healthy Oatmeal Cookie. Instead of making one big cookie like the original version I made 3 mini-ones. Cook time is a little shorter. Deliciousness is still the same.
Last night I tried a new-to-me Gluten Free Pizza crust. I randomly found it at the 99 Cent Store the other day.
Yeah, you know this quote about so-so pizza…
(source)
Well, I believe it.
But, I would NOT recommend this crust. The texture stayed a little dough/gel-ish even when fully cooked. I think texture is hardest thing to master when it comes to gluten free replacements. Plus, the ingredient list was super long. Noted.
Moving on to…
How You Can Help Resources
This weekend, I ran up Las Vegas Blvd. in the morning (not for the race). I saw several homeless people asking for help. Unfortunately, I didn’t have anything to give them. But just because I didn’t have anything right then doesn’t mean I still can’t help. In fact, a company like The #1 Rated San Diego Hard Money Lender such as Hard Money Lender San Diego may be able to provide them with some timely help. If you’re able to pay off debt or correct an error on your certified reports that might lead to an increase in your credit scores, a rapid rescore credit service can save you time and potentially money in the long run.
This time of year is hard for people who don’t have enough food or a warm place to sleep. It’s hard for families who don’t have enough money for Christmas presents for their kids. It’s hard for people who have lost loved ones and feel lonely.
There are tons of places where I can help. I’m going to do some research to figure out what speaks to me and I encourage you to do the same if you are able. Pass it on.

Question: Have you ever had bad pizza?
Lisa says
if you aren’t GF then i don’t see the point in trying this stuff! Most of the time it has more calories too! My boyfriend insists on eating GF waffles. More money and more calories. I understand eating gluten free in general…just to avoid cupcakes and cookies etc. But replacing them with GF products boggles my mind. Not necessarily directing this towards you…just people in general hah!
runeatrepeat says
I hear ya. Most of the time they’re are more calories and no fiber. I’ve tried a lot of GF products out of curiosity this year and am disappointed every time except for TJ’s brown rice tortillas.
Lisa says
I gave up gluten for a month. Not because of a sensitivity just a guideline to force myself to avoid those foods since it really is in everything. Of course I felt better. But that’s because I wasn’t eating pizza, cookies, donuts and fatty foods. Anyone would feel better. Poor gluten products getting all of the blame…its the sugar and crap foods that happen to have gluten in it!!

Monica, I work at United Way of Greater LA and we focus on homelessness issues. We have a 5K Run/Walk this weekend (Sat) called HomeWalk. It’s kind of everything you just discussed plus the fitness focus of your blog rolled into one. If you recap this post before Saturday, I’d love it if you highlighted it. Its near the LA Coliseum, is in its 7th year, has Kobe Bryant as a spokesperson (yup, he’ll be there) and has put over 13,000 homeless individuals and family members into permanent housing over the past 7 years with the money it’s raised. Thanks for highlighting this important issue!

My dad mentioned this to me a long time ago and I almost forgot. Thanks for the head’s up.

As someone with celiac’s I’ve had lots of bad gluten free pizza…and that dough included. It’s kinda the consistency of shoe leather when baked which makes for a good jaw workout when chewing 🙂

Are we still talking pizza here?

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a pizza I didn’t enjoy, but that doesn’t mean I’ve loved them all either. Love the pizza quote! It’s so true. Except (tmi) maybe the sex part. I’ve had some BAD sex. 🙁

I work at a non-profit that works with homeless clients. This is a great resource list Monica!!

No; pizza is never bad. Just like the quote said.

Best GF pizza crust I’ve ever had is “Against the Grain” – it comes frozen and is crispy and delicious! My mom has celiac’s so my family has experimented with plenty of options. Very short ingredients list, but includes cheese so it’s not the lowest-calorie option!
Also, love the philanthropy aspect of this post! It’s National Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week, and I’m an Americorps VISTA so my full-time volunteer position is focused on eliminating poverty. Thanks 🙂

I see that crust at the grocery store all the time. I’m glad I resisted the urge. It’s so hard to have bad pizza since the cheese normally cures all. I can tell you the best pizza I’ve ever had was at Giordano’s in Chicago. Deep dish heaven!!
Aimee - funfitgirl says
I tried that dough a few weeks ago – its not up to par. I had the same experience. HOWEVER, the GF cookie dough from Pillsbury is decent for when you need a quick cookie fix and only want to make one or two cookies (thank you resealable containers!)

Last night we took all the kids to the grocery store and filled a box with Thanksgiving type food for the Salvation Army. They made a game of finding all of the things on the list. What a fun thing and a good use of family time.

You’re right…I always think, “I should volunteer…” and then I never do it. Thank you for the reminder, Monica 🙂

Yikes that pizza… I wouldn’t eat gluten free pizza if I didn’t have to.

Great links and thank you for sharing! Even though the crust may not have turned out well that pizza looks DELICIOUS!
